The BTK Strangler
Dennis Rader, known as the BTK Strangler, is depicted in every episode of season one of Mindhunter.
He didn’t come into contact with Ford and Tench but his actions have gone down in history for their sheer wickedness.
In real-life, Rader is a serial killer who murdered 10 victims and is currently serving 10 life sentences.
He gave himself the nickname BTK, which stands for Bind, Torture, Kill, due to the horrendous way he would kill his victims.
Vader sent mocking letters to the police and wasn’t caught until 2005 when he began sending messages once again.
Played by Cameron Britton in Mindhunter, Ed Kemper will return in season two.
Kemper is now 70-years-old and serving eight life sentences.
The serial killer killed both his grandparents in 1964 and was subsequently arrested.
However, Kemper was released on parole five years later after being kept in the insane unit of Atascadero State Hospital.
Between May 1972 and April 1973 Kemper went on a murder spree which resulted in five college students, a high school student, his mother and her best friend falling victim.
Kemper would also dismember his victims and perform sexual acts on the corpses.
Serial killer Jerry Brudos is portrayed by Happy Anderson in Mindhunter season one.
He committed the murders of at least four people between the years of 1968 and 1969.
Brudos was also known as The Lust Killer or The Shoe Fetish Killer.
He hit headlines for how he would dress up the corpses of his victims in different female garments he had collected over the years.
Brides died on March 28, 2006, at the age of 67.
Other real-life killers to appear in Mindhunter season one include:
- Richard Speck (played by Jack Erdie)
- Montie Rissel (Sam Strike)
Mindhutner season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from Friday, August 16.
