Game of Thrones season 8: Where is Catelyn Stark buried? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

After so long with no updates on the new season of Game of Thrones, last week HBO dropped a new teaser trailer and announced the release date. While the world was watching the new season of True Detective, viewers were treated to an eerie new promo featuring the Starks in the Crypts of Winterfell – but this has seen viewers wonder about the late Catelyn Stark (played by Michelle Fairley).

Game of Thrones season eight will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic this April for its final season.

The very first episode of the world’s biggest show will air on April 14.

The epic new taser trailer for season eight is titled Crypts of Winterfell and can be watched above here.

An endless amount of clues and hints can be gathered from the promo which focuses on three major characters.

Jon Snow (Kit Harington), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) reunite as the Stark children among their ancestors in the crypts of Winterfell.

The trailer even includes the voices of their late parents Ned Stark (Sean Bean) and Catelyn Stark, née Tully (Michelle Fairley).

The reoccurrence of these former main characters has prompted fans to ask what happened to their remains.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8, EPISODE 1 RELEASE DATE

Where is Catelyn Stark buried?

It is not explicitly stated in the show or the books where the Stark matriarch is buried.

Fans will recall she suffered a horrific and tragic death at the hands of the Freys and the Lannisters in season three at the now infamous Red Wedding.

Having had her throat slit, it was later revealed that her body was thrown in a river and given no burial rights.

In the books, Catelyn is reanimated and comes back to life as the vengeful Lady Stoneheart.

GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 TRAILER: DID YOU SPOT LYANNA STARK DETAIL?

Many fans of the books had been anticipating this storyline to take place in the series, but it never happened.

In the latest promo for season eight, a quote form Catelyn when she was still alive is heard in the crypts.

She says: “All this horror that’s come to this family, is all because I couldn’t love a motherless child”.

There is a theory doing the rounds that speculates that the Night King will reanimate the corpses buried in the crypts of Winterfell.

This could potentially see Catelyn Stark resurrected as a Wight, but it probably won’t happen as there is no mention of her remains ever being recovered, let alone brought to Winterfell.

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on April 14
